Eska Water

The best tasting water

We think ESKA is the best-tasting water on earth. And 3,000 people who took the ESKA taste test think so too.

About the source

Preservation and protection

How we're protecting the environment

Like the native Canadians who arrived millennia ago at St-Mathieu, we were awestruck when we first saw the esker and the pristine forest surrounding it. So when it came time to design our plant, preserving the esker and the forest became our top priority. Today our site occupies 1.7 km² of land which we protect in every possible way. There are virtually no roads here, and we intend to keep it that way. In addition, the Québec Ministry of Natural Resources and Wildlife has designated as protected land a 4.25 km² area surrounding our source.

Making choices that work best for the environment

We began construction in 2001. From the start, we made choices based on what would be best for the environment. For instance, we used machinery fuelled by vegetable oil and opted to install untreated hydro poles that would not release chemicals into the esker. We surfaced our parking lot with cement rather than tar, which could leach into the esker. And if you peek underneath what few roads we have, you’ll find an advanced geotextile mesh to catch potential oil spills and any other impurities. Everything on our site has been designed to protect the esker and prevent any contamination of this natural wonder.

Reducing, reusing and recycling at the plant

We do as much as we can to save energy at our plant and to use resources wisely. We installed energy-saving machinery in the plant and continue to work on other energy efficiency projects. And did we mention that we recycle or reuse all materials we use at the plant? Even our waste water goes through an “Ecoflo®” purification system before it is returned to nature outside the catchment area of the esker.

How we're preserving the esker

To keep ESKA pure, we need to preserve its source. We keep the esker under constant analysis, vigilantly monitoring its level of flow and mineral composition at 17 checkpoints. The spring itself is locked from intruders and access is controlled even for plant employees. For added protection, the plant is under surveillance 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
